Women’s Cross Country Finishes 2018 at NECC Championship

maddy main named to necc sportsmanship team

WESTFIELD, Mass. – A pair of Southern Vermont College women's cross country runners competed at the 2018 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship Sunday morning as the team concluded its season at Stanley Park.

SVC did not register a team score while Elms College claimed its first-ever NECC title.

Mountaineer senior Maddy Main (Bennington, Vt.) crossed the line with a time of 24:38—finishing just five seconds off her personal-record mark which she set at last year's Conference meet. She was also named to the Del Malloy Sportsmanship Team by SVC second-year head coach Jarrett Blankenship.

"I picked Maddy and Davanté [Smith] because they have always encouraged not only our team—but the teams around them really well," Blankenship said of his women's and men's sportsmanship honorees. "At the end of the day, they are just happy to be competing and being a part of community of runners. They both have a solid understanding of what being a supportive teammate and competitor looks like."

Southern Vermont sophomore Faith Sullivan (Bennington, Vt.) came in at 34:05 with the second Mountaineer showing of the day.
