Women’s Cross Country Hits Season Midpoint at Johnson State’s Badger Invitational

JOHNSON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont College women's cross country team completed the front end of its 2017 regular season schedule Saturday at Johnson State College's Badger Invitational with two Mountaineers finishing in the top 10.

A pair of SVC runners set personal records at the upstate, 5,000 meter race while the team finished fourth as a squad.

Southern Vermont is back in action next Saturday, September 23 when the Mountaineers make the short trip south to Mount Greylock Regional High School for Williams College's Purple Valley Classic; the 6,000 meter race is slated to begin at 1 p.m.

Crossing the finish line first for SVC was Bennington College senior Isabella Poulos (Milwaukee, Wis.) who came through at second overall with a time of 23:30.

Mountaineer freshman Emily Ikonen (Hubbardston, Mass.) was next for her team at sixth overall; she took six seconds off her previous personal best to chart a 26:22 in the 5K. She was followed by junior Maddy Main (Bennington, Vt.) who finished third for SVC at 28:28.

Southern Vermont junior Stephany Ferreira (Shelton, Conn.) competed in her first-ever cross country race and rounded out the Mountaineers' top-five scoring placements with a 29:52, and freshman Faith Sullivan (Bennington, Vt.) was next at 36:43.
