Women's Volleyball Falls 3-0 to Montclair State, Mount Saint Mary in Opening Day of Hawk Invitational

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The Southern Vermont College women's volleyball team took to day one of SUNY New Paltz's Hawk Invitational Friday evening—falling 3-0 to both Montclair State University and Mount Saint Mary College at Hawk Center.

SVC (0-5) concludes its participation in the Invitational on Saturday when the Mountaineers square off with Stockton University (1pm) and The Sage Colleges (3pm).

Montclair State 3 – Southern Vermont 0
The Red Hawks swept Southern Vermont with straight-set scores of 25-17, 25-13, and 25-11.

Mountaineer sophomore Sarah Billow (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) registered a team-best six kills while adding five digs to her line. Freshman Nikki Ramirez (West Covina, Calif.) followed with four kills and chipped in with five digs of her own as sophomore Abigail Landon (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) popped up 12 assists in the effort. Junior Heidy Benitez (Tulare, Calif.) tied the match-high of 17 digs on the defensive end while recording a pair of kills offensively.

Mount Saint Mary 3 – Southern Vermont 0
The Knights were victorious over SVC later on with game scores of 25-15, 25-11, and 25-10.

Ramirez led the Mountaineers with five kills in the match, and she also notched seven digs. Billow put down four kills while popping up three digs, and Benitez led all players with 21 digs in addition to providing a pair of service aces. Bennington College freshman Kemly Derby (New York City, N.Y.) had five assists and five digs for Southern Vermont.
