BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont College women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to State University of New York at Potsdam Friday night in non-conference play at the Mountaineer Athletic Center.
The Bears took the straight-set victory with set scores of 25-18, 25-15, and 25-18.
Potsdam was reasonably efficient on the attack, totaling a .205 hitting percentage as a team with 32 kills on the night. Both teams recorded eight service aces from behind the line while Potsdam posted the only block.
Mountaineer senior Jessica Delgado (Los Angeles, California) led the team with six kills and added five digs to her line. Sophomore Brin Goldman (St. Croix, Virgin Islands) had four kills and six digs while junior Sheilani Kaleopa (Riverside, California) had a team-best eight digs to go with her 11 assists.
Bear senior Liza Fields (Duanesburg, New York) tallied a match-high nine kills in the win, adding six digs and three aces to her night. Senior libero Gabby Arana (Williston Park, New York) led all players with 11 digs while freshman setter Rachel Topf (Eagle River, Alaska) facilitated the Potsdam offense with 28 assists.
Southern Vermont (4-8) now turns its focus on Saturday's New England Collegiate Conference opener when the Mountaineers travel to Regis College for a tri-match, taking on the Pride (11 a.m.) for both team's first league match and then Worcester State University (1 p.m.) in non-conference action. Potsdam (6-12) continues its road trip on Saturday with a 4 p.m. start at Williams College.
