CASTLETON, Vt. – Southern Vermont women's volleyball moves to 3-0 on the season with a 3-0 win at Castleton State (0-3) Wednesday.
SVC started tenaciously, winning the first set 25-9. They remained in cruise control for the remainder of the match as Coach Josh Stokes was able to adjust the lineup, getting 13 different players action at some point.
Stokes was happy with the way his team shared in the scoring, saying, "I'm glad that for the first time, we didn't have to rely on our outside hitters to bring the offense."
Junior middle hitter Elaine Guerrero (Garden Grove, Calif.) was valuable in all aspects of the match for Stokes; she was involved in the offense by finishing seven kills on 12 attempts and had six service aces without recording an error from behind the line. She also had a solo block and assisted on another.
Mountaineer libero Vivian Delgado (Sr. / La Puente, Calif.) had a match-high 18 digs as the SVC defense did not allow Castleton to get more than 15 points in any of the three sets. Spartan junior Ruth Tomlinson (Huntingdon, Vt.) led the team with 11 digs.
The Mountaineers have only one day off before traveling to Upstate New York this weekend for the Victory Promotions Invitational; they will play St. Lawrence University (6:00 p.m.) and Plattsburgh State (8:00 p.m.) at St. Lawrence Friday night and then face off against Potsdam State (11:30 a.m.) and SUNYIT (1:30 p.m.) on Saturday at Potsdam. The Spartans will next play at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday versus Green Mountain College.
