Host Southern Vermont Sweeps Daniel Webster to Advance to Finals

BENNINGTON, Vt.- The Southern Vermont College Women's Volleyball team advanced to the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) championship game with a 3-0 victory over fourth seeded Daniel Webster College. The Mountaineers and Eagles played the first of two Women's Volleyball semi-final games at Southern Vermont Friday evening.

Southern Vermont continued its tremendous 2011 season as they extended their win streak to 21 and its consecutive sets won streak to 48. The Mountaineers won by scores of 25-11, 25-18, and 25-16.

In the first set the Mountaineers used two five point runs to jump out to a 15-7 lead. In the second set the Eagles battled and held an advantage at 10-9 before the Mountaineers made their run. The final set seemed to be all SVC, when Southern Vermont led at 16-2. However, Daniel Webster fought its way back to 25-16.

For the victors, Alicia Manzo (Clovis, CA) had 10 kills, while Danielle Healis (San Diego, CA) had nine. Hershey Canta (Bataan, Philippines) had 25 assists, which put her only three assists behind the SVC All-Time record. Senior captain, Joanna Hogue (Los Gatos, CA) led the defense with 14 digs.

Daniel Webster controlled the SVC attack game with its big block. Kate-Lynn Breault (Hudson, NH) had four blocks, Jennifer Finneran (Barnstead, NH) had two solo blocks and Ally Hayden (Bedford, NH) assisted on two blocks. Samantha Hill (Hudson, NH) hit.308 for the Eagles, while Hayden had 10 assists.

Southern Vermont (30-2) advances to the NECC Championship game tomorrow at 2:00PM. The Eagles end its season at 16-9.
