Women’s Lacrosse Bested 17-3 at Elms

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Southern Vermont College was topped 17-3 at Elms College Wednesday night as the Mountaineers lost to the hosting Blazers in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's lacrosse action at Leary Field.

EC went ahead 6-0 by the 13:15 mark and never looked back. The hosts took a 9-1 upper hand into the break and then outscored SVC 8-2 in the second half to walk out with the win.

Southern Vermont (1-9, 1-3 NECC) is next in action on Saturday against New England College; the league contest is scheduled to be played at SVC but could be moved to Mass. College of Liberal Arts in North Adams, Mass. due to field conditions and impending rain.

Mountaineer senior Madi Carr (Petersham, Mass.) had a goal to go along with her three ground balls and a team-leading five caused turnovers. Junior Juliena D'Alessio (Berlin, N.Y.) had four caused turnovers and three ground balls while freshman Brittany Fulton (Bridgeport, Conn.) registered a goal, two caused turnovers, and two ground balls.

SVC senior goalie Sydnee Julian (Mexico, N.Y.) made 13 saves between the pipes during the loss (1-9).

EC ran out to a 6-0 upper hand and maintained that lead through the final horn. SVC got on the board when freshman Brittany Fulton (Bridgeport, Conn.) netted a free-position shot, but the Blazers closed out the half with three unanswered tallies to take a comfortable cushion into the break.

Southern Vermont freshman Marisa Moy (Framingham, Mass.) scored the first goal of the second period, and Carr's finish made it a 10-3 game with 23:34 to go in regulation. Elms controlled the rest of the game, however, as the Blazers notched seven-straight goals to pull away and take the league match.
