NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Southern Vermont College dropped an 18-1 decision at Smith College Wednesday evening in non-conference women's lacrosse action.

The Pioneers took an 11-0 upper hand into the break and then padded their cushion through the final 30 minutes.

SVC (0-4) now turns to the start of its New England Collegiate Conference schedule when the Mountaineers head to Newbury College on Monday for a 4 p.m. start.

Southern Vermont freshman Alex Safford (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) scored on her only shot of the day, and she also had a pair of draw controls and a caused turnover. Junior Madi Carr (Petersham, Mass.) tied her career-high of four caused turnovers while adding a team-best three ground balls to her line.

Senior goalie Kelsey Carrera (Queensbury, N.Y.) played the first 51:50 between the pipes—making 13 saves in the loss (0-3).

SC stormed out to a comfortable upper hand in the first while preventing SVC from registering a shot. Safford found the back of the cage midway through the second stanza for her fourth goal of the season, but the Pioneer extended their lead through the remainder of the first-ever matchup between the two sides.
