Softball Wins First of 2012

MYRTLE BEACH, SC- The Southern Vermont College softball team scored twice in the fourth inning and added another run in the fifth to earn its first victory of 2012. The Mountaineers won 3-0 over Penn-St. Harrisburg Wednesday in Myrtle Beach.

SVC's Alyssa Davis went 2-3 with a run scored to lead the Mountaineers to its first victory. Shelby Jones also had an RBI double in the fourth inning for Southern Vermont. Vanessa Ruelas also contributed to the Mountaineer victory with a single and an RBI.

Haley McDonald pitched seven scoreless innings, and only surrendered six hits and one walk. McDonald also struck out five to earn the first win of her collegiate career.

The Mountaineers are 1-3 overall on its 2012 spring trip and will finish its trip tomorrow, the 8th,  against Swarthmore.
