ALBANY, N.Y. – Southern Vermont College's outdoor track and field went up against Division I competition Saturday as the Mountaineers competed in the University at Albany's Bobbi Palma Spring Classic.
Two of the team's entries went for personal records—one being a first-time participation while the other cracked the program's record list.
SVC now gets set to take on the inaugural New England Collegiate Conference championship, slated for Sunday, April 28, which will be held at Regis College in conjunction with the Great Northeast Athletic Conference title meet.
Southern Vermont freshman Osman Padilla (El Paso, Texas) took 1.72 seconds off his previous top time in the 200 meter dash with a mark of 24.98; that was good enough for him to take fourth on the school's all-time record list. Sophomore teammate Omar Santiago-Rodriguez (Stanfordville, N.Y.) registered his first-ever collegiate time in the 400 meter dash—crossing the line at 1:00.27.
