ALBANY, N.Y. – In its last regular season meet of the year, the Southern Vermont College outdoor track & field team continued moving in the right direction as the Mountaineers made numerous improvements to their marks from earlier in the season at the University at Albany's Saturday Spring Classic.
SVC chalked up two school records and nine other personal bests while senior Marc Brandmeyer (Bennington, Vt.) qualified for the Division III New England Championships in the 3000 meter steeplechase.
Southern Vermont now has the week to prepare for the first-ever New England Collegiate Conference/Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championships set to take place at Regis College on Sunday, April 29.
Mountaineer freshman Emily Ikonen (Hubbardston, Mass.) broke her own Southern Vermont record in the 200 meter dash by .95 seconds as she crossed the line with a time of 29.85 ticks.
SVC's men's 4x400 meter relay team topped its record mark set last year with a 3:41.09—coming through 1.2 seconds faster than the 2017 group did.
Brandmeyer completed the steeplechase with a time of 9:59.34 as the Southern Vermont senior qualified for the regional meet for the third-straight year. That championship race is set for Saturday, May 4 at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
