NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Southern Vermont College outdoor track & field team fought through chilly conditions Saturday at Smith College's Pioneer Invitational—making great strides as the squad finished the first half of its 2018 schedule.
One of SVC's marks broke a school record while seven others were new personal bests for the participants.
Next up for the Mountaineers is a two-day event at Stockton University, the Osprey Open, April 13-14.
In her first time running the 5000 meter race for SVC's track crew, Bennington College senior Annika Kristiansen (Keene, N.H.) broke the school record by 23.37 seconds to cross the line at 19:38.93.
Freshman Dylan Knight (Sweeney, Texas) moved into third on Southern Vermont's all-time list in the 200 meter dash as he knocked 1.15 seconds off his previous best for a mark of 25.01 seconds, and classmate Faith Sullivan (Bennington, Vt.) climbed up to third in the women's shot put by tossing it 8.74 meters to top her old personal record by .77 meters.
Junior Isaiah Backels (Derry, N.H.) moved into fourth on SVC's 100 meter dash chart as he crossed the line in 12.09 seconds in his first time running the distance collegiately.
