BENNINGTON, Vt. – Following its final meet of the regular season, the Southern Vermont College outdoor track & field coaching staff named Mountaineer freshman Luke Freehoff (Mansfield, Mass.) as the team’s Athlete of the Week.
Freehoff set a new SVC record for the sixth-straight week as he topped his previous best mark in the men’s discus toss at Sunday’s Pride Invitational hosted by Regis College. The rookie charted a long distance of 28.49 meters while also notching an 8.62 meters mark in the shot put.
“I like the fact that he comes to practice every day ready to work and with a smile on his face,” commented Southern Vermont head coach Kathleen Newton ‘04. “With that attitude, he continued to improve upon his personal bests all the way to the end of the season. We can’t wait to see what he has in store for us next year.”
Freehoff became the first Mountaineer to ever compete in the men’s shot put and the discus; he set program records in both with his first-time performances—putting up a high shot put mark of 9.75 meters.
