Men’s Cross Country Begins Regular Season’s Second Leg at Williams’ Purple Valley Classic

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Southern Vermont College men's cross country team made the short trip to Mount Greylock Regional High School on Saturday for Williams College's Purple Valley Classic.

SVC placed seventh out of the nine teams that registered scores in the 5000 meter race.

The Mountaineers now prepare for the Keene State College Invitational set to be held at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, September 29.

Southern Vermont junior Davanté Smith (Ellenville, N.Y.) was first across the line for the Mountaineers with a 17:47, and he was followed by Bennington College sophomore C.G. Holden (Pittsburgh, Pa.) who came through at 18:07.

SVC senior Isaiah Backels (Weare, N.H.) finished third for his crew with a mark of 20:28, and classmate Jackson Amankrah (New York City, N.Y.) followed with a 21:33. Freshman Rudy Moncada (Mission, Texas) rounded out the Mountaineers' scoring placements at 27:04.
