Men’s Cross Country Faces Tough Field at Williams’ Purple Valley Classic

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Southern Vermont College men's cross country team ventured south Saturday for Williams College's Purple Valley Classic held at Mount Greylock Regional High School.

SVC went up against a quality field of 324 runners who competed in the 8,000 meter race. The Mountaineers placed 24th overall as a team.

Southern Vermont is next in action on Saturday, September 30 with the 11:45 a.m. Keene State College Invitational.

Senior captain Marc Brandmeyer (Bennington, Vt.) led the team with a 28:55 showing while Bennington College freshman C.G. Holden (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was next for the team at 30:57. Sophomore Davanté Smith (Ellenville, N.Y.) came through at 31:07 for the Mountaineers.

Junior Isaiah Backels (Derry, N.H.) rounded out the team's five scoring placements with a 37:27, and classmate Jackson Amankrah (New York City, N.Y.) followed at 46:59.
