Men’s Cross Country Places Three in Top Five at Johnson State’s Badger Invitational

JOHNSON, Vt. – In a highly-contested Badger Invitational, the Southern Vermont College men's cross country took third as a team with three runners finishing in the top five at Johnson State College's Saturday meet.

The Mountaineers registered 59 team points in the 8,000 meter race; that put them closely behind Paul Smith's College which took second with 52 points—being edged by a SUNY Canton side that placed first as a team with 50 points.

Next up for Southern Vermont is the Purple Valley Classic hosted by Williams College at Mount Greylock Regional High School; that 8K is scheduled for 12:10 p.m. on Saturday, September 23.

SVC senior captain Marc Brandmeyer (Bennington, Vt.) was second overall with a time of 29:04 to lead the squad.

Bennington College freshman C.G. Holden (Pittsburgh, Pa.) was next at third individually as he posted a 30:55 for Southern Vermont, and sophomore teammate Davanté Smith (Ellenville, N.Y.) came through shortly after to take fourth overall with a mark of 31:04.

Mountaineer junior Isaiah Backels (Derry, N.H.) was fourth for the team at 37:18, and classmate Jackson Amankrah (New York City, N.Y.) rounded out SVC's five scoring placements with a 40:20.
