Men’s Cross Country Places Fourth at Castleton Invitational

CASTLETON, Vt. – In its first 8000 meter race of the year, the Southern Vermont College men's cross country team placed fourth as a squad at Saturday's Castleton University Invitational.

The Mountaineers placed three runners in the top 15.

SVC is next in action on Saturday, September 16 with Johnson State College's Badger Invitational; start time is slated for 11:15 a.m.

Senior captain Marc Brandmeyer (Bennington, Vt.) led the Mountaineers with a fifth-place finish as he crossed the line with a time of 28:22. Bennington College freshman C.G. Holden (Pittsburgh, Pa.) followed at 12th overall in his first collegiate 8K—coming in at 29:35 to set his personal best.

SVC sophomore Davanté Smith (Ellenville, N.Y.) was right behind Holden as he posted a time of 29:51 to place 14th overall, and junior Isaiah Backels (Derry, N.H.) was next for the team at 34:35. Junior Jackson Amankrah (New York City, N.Y.) also completed his first collegiate 8K—doing so with a time of 39:28.
