Men’s Volleyball Ends Season With 3-0 Loss at Nichols

DUDLEY, Mass. – The Southern Vermont College men's volleyball team wrapped up its 2019 season Saturday with a 3-0 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) loss to Nichols College at the Nichols Athletic Center.

The hosting Bison took the match with straight-set scores of 25-10, 25-9, and 25-11.

SVC finishes its final campaign with an overall record of 6-16 and a league mark of 3-11. The Mountaineers, who finished with an identical NECC record as Dean College, missed out on a playoff berth by way of the in-division strength of schedule tiebreaker.

Southern Vermont sophomore Zach Rogers (North Bennington, Vt.) led the team with six kills, and he also had two digs on the day. Senior Isaiah Backels (Weare, N.H.) posted five digs and four kills while classmate Adrian Dickerson (Bristol, Vt.) had three kills in addition to a team-best seven digs. Freshman Fernando Perez (Azusa, Calif.) tallied 11 assists and three digs in the effort.

NC was up 6-4 in the first set before scoring six unanswered points to grab a comfortable lead. The Bison later went on a 9-1 run to open it up and cruise to the game victory.

Nichols started the second frame with eight-straight points, and SVC wouldn't get closer than seven the rest of the way. Dickerson, Rogers, and Backels all had kills later in the set, but it wasn't enough to spark a comeback for the visitors.

The Bison went on top 10-3 in the third game, and a 7-2 Nichols run then put the difference into double digits. NC grabbed the final three points of the day to seize its third win over Southern Vermont this year.
