CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Southern Vermont College men's volleyball team began New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action Friday night at Picknelly Arena—falling 3-0 to Elms College.
The Blazers swept SVC with set scores of 25-9, 25-8, and 25-5.
The Mountaineers are next in action Sunday afternoon with a tri-match at Northern Vermont University-Johnson; Southern Vermont will play an NECC tilt against Newbury College at 12 p.m. before facing off with the hosting Badgers at 4 p.m.
SVC sophomore Zach Rogers (North Bennington, Vt.) had four kills for the visitors while senior Isaiah Backels (Weare, N.H.) notched six assists, three digs, and two kills. Freshman libero Fernando Perez (Azusa, Calif.) tallied four digs for the Mountaineers.
Four-straight aces early in the first put EC on the path to a decisive win; the Blazers would then go on a 9-1 run to help close it out. Elms opened up the second with an 11-2 lead before eight unanswered points later in the frame put it out of SVC's reach. The Blazers rallied for 13-straight in the onset of the third game, and they finished the night with another 11 in-a-row.
