Men’s Volleyball Falls 3-0 to No. 15 MIT, Emerson at Lions’ Tri-match

BOSTON, Mass. – The Southern Vermont College men's volleyball team fell 3-0 to 15th-ranked Mass. Institute of Technology before being swept 3-0 by Emerson College Saturday afternoon in a tri-match hosted by EC at Brown & Plofker Gym.

Next up for the Mountaineers (0-4) is their Tuesday home opener as SVC welcomes The Sage Colleges to the Southern Vermont campus for a 7 p.m. first serve.

The Engineers took the opening set of the day's middle match by a 25-13 margin, and they went on to win the next two at 25-7 and 25-8.

SVC sophomore Te Hayward (Baltimore, Md.) notched a team-best five kills while adding a pair of digs to his line, and senior El Olivares (Miami, Fla.) had three digs and two kills in the effort. Freshman Zach Rogers (North Bennington, Vt.) tallied three assists and a pair of blocks for the Mountaineers.

Emerson 3 – Southern Vermont 0
The hosting Lions defeated SVC with straight-set scores of 25-10, 25-9, and 25-12 to end the afternoon.

Southern Vermont junior Adrian Dickerson (Bristol, Vt.) led the team with four kills, and he also had a pair of digs in the effort. Sophomore Te Hayward (Baltimore, Md.) chalked up three digs and a pair of block assists while junior Isaiah Backels (Derry, N.H.) tallied four assists and a pair of digs for the Mountaineers.

Up by five, Emerson closed out the first set on a 10-1 run to take the edge in the match. The Lions carried that momentum into the second to stake a 13-1 lead, and they never looked back en route to grabbing a 2-0 lead on the day. Southern Vermont rattled off five straight in the onset of the third to tie it at 6-6 with Dickerson notching an ace and a kill in that stretch. EC would respond with five unanswered of its own, however, and eight consecutive points later in the frame sealed the victory for the hosts.
