BENNINGTON, Vt. — The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) announced on Sunday its weekly award winners for the period ending March 7, 2015 with the Men's Volleyball Rookie of the Week once again going to Southern Vermont College freshman Stewart Ramirez (Los Angeles, California).
Ramirez picked up his first NECC Rookie of the Week honor on February 2 before collecting his second last week; Ramirez was also named the Eastern College Athletic Conference North Region Rookie of the Week last Tuesday.
The rookie continued to be a valuable asset for the Mountaineers last week, helping them split a pair of five-set league matches with a .348 hitting percentage. He first tied the program-high of 30 kills in a close 3-2 loss at Endicott on Tuesday, adding eight digs and a solo block; the rookie committed only five hitting errors on 49 swings against the Gulls for a .510 attack percentage in the match. Ramirez then followed with 16 kills and 10 digs to notch the double-double in a Saturday win over Elms.
SVC swept the NECC men's volleyball awards as senior Scott Fitzgeald (Queensbury, New York) garnered his second Player of the Week honor.
The pair and the Mountaineers have the week off before resuming play at Lesley University on Saturday with a 1 p.m. NECC contest.
