BENNINGTON, Vt. — Southern Vermont College senior Scott Fitzgerald (Queensbury, New York) was named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Men’s Volleyball Player of the Week for the period ending March 7, 2015 on Sunday, the SVC captain’s second time being recognized by the league.
Fitzgerald was solid for the Mountaineers last week, recording 12 kills in both of their five-set matches. He added eight digs in each contest to go with five total block assists, five assists and a pair of service aces. The senior captain helped SVC storm to a much needed second-set victory against Elms on Saturday, serving up 13 straight points for Southern Vermont. He was also named the NECC Player of the Week on February 2.
SVC swept the NECC men's volleyball honors as freshman Stewart Ramirez (Los Angeles, California) was named the NECC Rookie of the Week, the third time he's collected the honor this season.
The pair and the Mountaineers have the week off before resuming play at Lesley University on Saturday with a 1 p.m. NECC contest.
