Fitzgerald Nabs Third NECC Player of the Week Accolade

BENNINGTON, Vt. — The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) announced Sunday night its weekly award winners for the period ending March 21, 2015 with Southern Vermont College senior captain Scott Fitzgerald (Queensbury, New York) taking claim to the Men’s Volleyball Player of the Week laurel for the third time this year.

Fitzgerald was also named the league’s Player of the Week on March 8 and February 1 of this season. In conjunction with a pair of top honors being garnered by SVC senior Joey Dighton (Riverside, California), Mountaineers have now collected the NECC Player of the Week accolade five out of the nine times it’s been awarded this year.

Fitzgerald had a solid match in the Mountaineers' lone contest of the week, hitting .550 in a victory that tied the all-time program wins record for Southern Vermont. He landed 13 kills on 20 swings while popping up seven digs and notching one block assist. The senior captain added two service aces and three assists in the SVC sweep at Daniel Webster.

The captain and the Mountaineers have a pair of home Conference matches this week, first hosting Endicott College for Senior Night on Thursday; prior to the 7 p.m. start, Fitzgerald and the other six departing Southern Vermont players will be honored and recognized.
