BENNINGTON, Vt. — The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) announced its weekly award winners on Sunday for the period ending February 22, 2015 with Southern Vermont College senior middle hitter Joey Dighton (Riverside, California) garnering the Men's Volleyball Player of the Week accolade, his second of the 2015 season.
Dighton had a solid week for the Mountaineers against quality competition, hitting .393 across the three SVC matches. He had seven kills and a pair of block assists in a 3-1 loss to No. 11 MIT on Tuesday, and the senior then tallied 12 kills and three block assists in a tight 3-2 loss to Johnson & Wales on Thursday. Dighton put down nine kills and committed only one attacking error on 15 swings for a .533 hitting percentage on Saturday in an NECC win over Daniel Webster, adding four aces from behind the line. He currently ranks eighth in NCAA Division III with a .395 hitting percentage on the season.
Dighton and the Mountaineers look to keep it going in Conference play with a pair of league matchups at home this week, the first being on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Newbury College.
