BENNINGTON, Vt. – Southern Vermont College outside hitter Anthony Barahona (Las Vegas, Nev.) has been named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Men's Volleyball Player of the Week for the week ending February 3, 2013.
Barahona hit .225 over the weekend in four matches at the Golden Flyer Invitational held at Nazareth College. He posted 14 kills and five digs in a 3-1 loss to Emmanuel, 12 kills, three digs and three blocks in a 3-1 loss to Elmira, and 13 kills, eight digs and three blocks in a three-set loss to MIT. On the week, Barahona averaged 3.38 kills, 2.67 digs and 1.00 blocks per set.
The 6'4" junior currently ranks first in the NECC with 64 kills and is third with 3.37 kills per set. In six matches this season, he is sporting a .243 hitting percentage and a conference-leading 0.53 service aces per set.
Barahona and the Mountaineers return to action Saturday when they begin the NECC schedule with a 2 p.m. match at Lesley University.
