FRANKLIN, Mass. – A pair of goals in the first half sank Southern Vermont College Saturday afternoon as the visiting Mountaineers fell 2-0 to Dean College in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's soccer action at Longley Soccer Field.
The hosting Bulldogs struck in the 22nd minute of play before garnering a little separation with another score with 11:19 to go in the opening stanza. DC maintained that lead through the second period to take the league victory.
Southern Vermont (2-13-3, 0-4-3 NECC) is right back in action on Sunday with a 1 p.m. non-conference home match against Pine Manor College.
SVC was held without a shot in the opening stanza while Dean took eight at the other end. The fourth Bulldog attempt found the back of the net as the hosts went on top 21:05 into the contest. DC padded their lead in the 34th minute to bring a 2-0 edge into the break.
Southern Vermont's offense garnered some momentum in the second and started to get some looks at the frame—four of the Mountaineers' six shots during the half being on net. None of those could beat the Bulldog keeper, however, as Dean finished the shutout.
SVC freshman keeper Tyler Mackie (Danville, N.H.) made five saves in the loss (0-2-2).
