NEW LONDON, Conn. – Southern Vermont College fell 3-0 at Mitchell College's Alumni Field Saturday afternoon in its New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's soccer opener.
The hosting Mariners put home all three of their goals in the first 28 minutes of action and carried that advantage through the final whistle for the shutout.
The Mountaineers (1-6, 0-1 NECC) are right back in action on Sunday when they host SUNY Canton at Applejack Stadium in Manchester, Vt. for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
SVC freshman goalie Diego Uquillas (Erie, Pa.) had one save in the first 23:49 of action during the loss (1-5) before classmate Tyler Mackie (Danville, N.H.) made three stops in the remainder of the match.
MC got on the board quickly with a finish off a cross from the left side of the box in the third minute of play. The Mariners then scored twice in a two-minute span midway through the first half for a lead they would carry to victory.
