Men’s Soccer Clinches Playoff Berth Despite 3-0 Loss at Elms

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Southern Vermont College dropped a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's soccer road match Tuesday night as the visiting Mountaineers fell 3-0 to Elms College at Leary Field.

Regardless of the loss, SVC (4-12, 2-3 NECC) clinched its first postseason tournament berth since 2012 as Wheelock College fell 8-1 at Dean College on Tuesday. The first round of the Conference playoffs is set for October 31.

Elms scored once in the first half before adding another pair of goals following the intermission. The hosts held Southern Vermont to just one shot on net throughout the evening while collecting the shutout.

SVC is back on the road for its next game as the Mountaineers travel to Newbury College on Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. Conference showdown.

Elms had a 17-4 advantage in shots while taking five corner kicks to Southern Vermont's one.

Mountaineer freshman keeper Dylan Berg (Tampa, Fla.) made four saves in the loss (4-12).

EC got on the board in the 28th minute with a successful penalty kick, and the 1-0 edge lasted into halftime. 29:28 into the second period, the Blazers padded their cushion, and the hosts then capped the match's scoring with their third goal in the 75th minute.
