NEW LONDON, Conn. – Southern Vermont College was bested 4-1 at Mitchell College's Alumni Field Saturday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's soccer action.

The Mariners went into the break ahead 1-0 before scoring twice in the opening 2:11 of the second half. SVC got one back, but MC responded before finishing off the league victory.

Next up for the Mountaineers (3-8, 1-1 NECC) is a Tuesday non-conference match at Lyndon State College which is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.

Southern Vermont freshman Jared Lacoste (Arlington, Vt.) scored the lone goal for the visitors for him to tie the Conference leader in season points with 16.

Mountaineer freshman goalie Dylan Berg (Tampa, Fla.) made 12 saves between the pipes in the loss (3-8).

Mitchell took 32 shots to SVC's 10 on the day, and the Mariners had an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.

The hosts scored early-on with a header in the seventh minute of play. MC would go on to outshoot Southern Vermont by a 17-3 margin in the first half, but Berg was able to turn away the six other shots on net for the slim lead to be carried through the intermission.

Once play resumed, Mitchell scored in the 47th minute before adding another just 1:05 later. Lacoste was able to end the Mariners' shutout bid with his team-leading seventh goal of the year at the 50:19 mark; he cleaned up a loose ball on the goal line—punching it in for an unassisted tally.

That would be it for the visitors, however, as MC kept the SVC offense at bay through the remainder of the contest while adding another for the three-goal victory.
