Men?s Soccer Clipped 2-0 in Season-opening Tilt at Norwich

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Southern Vermont College men's soccer team began its 2017 campaign Friday afternoon in the first day of Norwich University's Cadet Kickoff Classic at Sabine Field but fell 2-0 to the hosts during the inner-state showdown.

The game was immediately in the hands of the Cadets when they scored just 1:42 into the season off of a corner kick. NU added an insurance tally midway through the opening half, and the 2-0 margin would hold through the remainder of the contest as the Norwich defense conceded just one shot on goal.

SVC (0-1) concludes its participation in the Classic on Saturday when the Mountaineers face off against Ithaca College at 1 p.m.

Norwich controlled play in the first 45 minutes as the Cadets were awarded a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks; NU put four shots on goal during each period and allowed only a solo shot on frame throughout the evening.

Southern Vermont freshman keeper Dylan Berg (Tampa, Fla.) tacked up five saves in his collegiate debut between the pipes.
