SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Southern Vermont College men's soccer team dropped a non-conference road contest Tuesday afternoon, losing to Skidmore College 4-0.
The two sides played a scoreless opening 29 minutes before Skidmore junior Brock Bakewell (Tucson, Ariz.) broke through with a header off a pass from sophomore Mike Lemnios (Farmington, Conn.) for his seventh tally of the season. About a minute and a half later, the Thoroughbreds put home their second as freshman Nick Masiero (Richmond, Mass.) shot one in from the top of the box for his second collegiate goal and the 2-0 lead which Skidmore would take into halftime.
Masiero would not take long after the break to notch his second of the game as he was able to score from inside the box in the 50th minute. Skidmore sophomore Tim Sullivan (Walpole, Mass.) then added the final notch with a minute and a half to go in the game when he collected a pass from sophomore Dmitri Barton (San Francisco, Calif.) in the box and put it home for the 4-0 victory.
Skidmore sophomore goalie Eli Kisselbach (Stamford, Conn.) made four saves for his first shutout of the season (3-2-1) while Mountaineer sophomore keeper Chris Dunham (Valley Falls, N.Y.) turned away 11 Thoroughbred shots in the loss (1-4).
Southern Vermont turns back to New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) on Saturday as the Mountaineers (2-7, 1-1 NECC) visit Mitchell College for a 3 p.m. match. Skidmore (6-3-2, 0-1-1 Liberty League) travels to Williams College Saturday for a 12 p.m. non-conference contest.
