STEVENSON, Md. – The Southern Vermont College men's soccer team dropped the back-end of the Stevenson University/McDaniel College Tournament Saturday night, losing 6-1 to Stevenson.
The Mustangs used four first-half goals to improve to 2-0 on the season while the Mountaineers move to 0-2.
Stevenson went ahead early when junior Andrew Garner (Owings, Md.) headed home his first of the season at the 5:07 mark, the goal being assisted by junior Yianni Sarioglou. The Mustangs would continue the attack, notching two in 28 seconds in the 14th minute; Senior Christopher Panian (Montok, Md.) put home his second of the season on a ball by sophomore Logan McCarron (Odenton, Md.) and then assisted Sarioglou for his second of the year.
Mountaineer senior Derek Snow (Centerville, Mass.) then put Southern Vermont on the board in the 25th minute with his first of the season. SU added another to go into the break with a 4-1 advantage en route to the 6-1 victory.
Mustang sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Callinan (Edison, N.J.) picks up his first win in the frame (1-0), and Southern Vermont sophomore Chris Dunham (Valley Falls, N.Y.) dips to 0-2 on the season.
Southern Vermont returns for its home-opener Wednesday when the Mountaineers host Castleton State College for a 4.m. match. The Mustangs also play next at 4 p.m. Wednesday when they welcome Neumann University.
