WESTMINSTER, Md. – Southern Vermont College men's soccer suffered a tough 10-1 defeat in the opening round of the Stevenson University/McDaniel College Tournament, losing at McDaniel Friday afternoon.
McDaniels's Shane McCracken (Marriottsville, Md.) tallied four markers - two in each half - for the Green Terror (1-0), who finished with a 26-4 advantage in shots.
Sophomore Ruben Olivares (Pico Rivera, Calif.) scored for the Mountaineers (0-1), putting back a rebound in the 33rd minute for his first of the year. Junior Erik Argueta (Pico Rivera, Calif.) assisted on the score.
McCracken finished twice in the game's first 12:52, scoring off a Andrew Hofmeister(Baltimore, Md.) feed in the third minute and a Luis Calderon (Silver Spring, Md.) assist in the 13th minute.
The Green Terror continued to play efficiently, notching six more in the second half.
McDaniel senior keeper Zach Nibbelink (Hampstead, Md.) takes the win (1-0) while Southern Vermont sophomore Chris Dunham (Valley Falls, N.Y.) is credited with the loss (0-1).
The tournament concludes Saturday when Southern Vermont travels to Stevenson for a 7 p.m. kickoff and McDaniel hosts La Roche College for a 4 p.m. match.
