ATTLEBORO, Mass. – The New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) announced on Monday its first batch of weekly award winners for 2018 with Southern Vermont College freshman KJ Kinsey (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) being chosen as the league's Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week for the period ending January 7.

The award was in recognition of all games played since December 18. Since then, SVC had three contests with Kinsey averaging 9.7 points per game on 41.7 percent shooting from the floor.

Kinsey had a stellar return to his native Southern Florida before the winter break as the Southern Vermont freshman registered a season-high 18 points in a hard-fought loss to a quality SUNY Cortland team on December 18 during the HoopMIA D3 Holiday Shootout. He came off the bench to provide a huge spark for the Mountaineers—notching a quick pair of triples before finishing with a 53.8 field goal percentage.

SVC swept Monday's men's basketball honors as senior Mike Pierre (Melrose, N.Y.) was tabbed the NECC Player of the Week.

Kinsey and the Mountaineers are back at it on Tuesday when they begin the Conference schedule—visiting Wheelock College for a 7:30 p.m. start.
