BENNINGTON, Vt. – The Southern Vermont College Department of Athletics released on Thursday its 2018 spring schedules for the College’s baseball, women’s lacrosse, outdoor track & field, softball, and men’s volleyball teams.

Baseball is slated to begin its full, 40-game schedule in Tennessee the weekend of February 17-18 with a three-game series at Maryville College. The Mountaineers will head to Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. the following weekend for the Bison Classic (Feb. 23-24), and SVC will then play a doubleheader in New York on March 3 before the College’s Spring Break. This year, SVC is set to spend its week off of classes in Virginia by visiting three schools in the Old Dominion: University of Mary Washington (March 12 doubleheader), Southern Virginia University (March 13 doubleheader), and Hampden-Sydney College (March 14).
Upon returning, Southern Vermont is scheduled to begin New England Collegiate Conference action with a March 17 doubleheader at Elms College; the Mountaineers wrap up the three-game league series with the Blazers on March 18 in what will be SVC’s home opener. Additional non-conference contests for Southern Vermont include games against Middlebury College (away April 10), Saint Michael’s College (away April 18), and Skidmore College (home April 24). The Mountaineers will hold Senior Day on Sunday, April 29 in conjunction with a 12 p.m. first pitch against Lesley University.
Women’s lacrosse is slated to play its first full, 17-game schedule in team history this spring. The Mountaineers will head to Pennsylvania to open up regular season action with a March 13 contest at Moravian College, and then SVC swings down to Baltimore to take on Utica College on a neutral pitch the following day during SVC’s Spring Break. Southern Vermont’s home opener will be on Saturday, April 31 with a 12 p.m. first draw against Keuka College, and the team’s following match will be its New England Collegiate Conference opener when SVC heads to Newbury College on April 4. Additional non-league games for the Mountaineers include matchups with Smith College (away March 28), New England College (home April 5), and The Sage Colleges (home April 17). Southern Vermont’s Senior Day will be Thursday, April 26 with a 4 p.m. home match against the University of Saint Joseph.
Outdoor track & field is slated to compete in a very similar schedule as last year with the Mountaineers kicking off the season Saturday, March 24 at Bridgewater State University’s Bears Invitational. SVC will also partake in Smith College’s Pioneer Invitational on April 7 before making the short trip to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for the Upstate Classic on April 14. Southern Vermont returns to the Capital Region the following weekend (April 21) for the University at Albany’s Spring Classic. The Mountaineers are likely to add one or two additional meets to their schedule—giving them more opportunities to qualify for the Division III New England Championships set to take place May 4-5.
Softball is scheduled for 28 games this spring—in addition to those contests to be played during the College’s Spring Break which are yet to be determined. The Mountaineers open up the regular season Saturday, March 3 with a doubleheader at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania, and they then head to Delaware for a twin bill against Wesley College the following day. The next games for SVC will be in Fort Myers, Fla. during the squad’s spring trip, and the Mountaineers are set to visit Skidmore College upon returning for a pair on March 21. Southern Vermont then jumps into New England Collegiate Conference action with a doubleheader against Mitchell College on Friday, March 30—a date which will also serve as SVC’s Opening Day at Willow Park. Other non-conference opponents for the Mountaineers are Mass. College of Liberal Arts (away April 4), SUNY Cobleskill (away April 10), and Union College (away April 12). Southern Vermont will hold its Senior Day at Willow on Saturday, April 21 with a league doubleheader against Wheelock College.
Men’s volleyball has 23 matches on the schedule this year—the first being a January 30 tilt at SUNY Polytechnic Institute. The Mountaineers then head to Mount Ida College on February 2 before visiting Emerson College the next day for a tri-match which will involve Mass. Institute of Technology. The following contest for SVC will be the team’s home opener as it welcomes The Sage Colleges to the Southern Vermont campus on Tuesday, February 6. The Mountaineers then begin New England Collegiate Conference play on February 8 with a home tilt against Elms College. Additional non-conference matchups for SVC include the Keuka College Tournament (March 2-3), a March 10 tri-match at Johnson & Wales University with Emmanuel College, and a second meeting with Mount Ida (home March 27). Southern Vermont will hold Senior Day on Saturday, April 7 in conjunction with a Conference doubleheader against Lesley University.
