Cross Country Opens Season with 2nd Place Finishes

RANDOLPH, Vt.- The Southern Vermont Cross Country teams opened their season Saturday afternoon with the 3 Stallion Inn-Vitational at Vermont Tech. The Mountaineers had two individuals finish fourth and finished with a second place finish as a team, in both the Men’s and Women’s.

Men’s runner Herson Canta finished the race in just over 20 minutes with a 20:01 fourth place finish. Michael Regland finished the course in 20:39 as Mountaineer Victor Velazquez finished one minute later for a 11th place result. The Men’s squad had seven runners finish the course with six of them finishing in under 25 minutes.

On the Women’s side Lauren Masiero came across the line fourth with a time of 24:46. Olivia Botteron ran an 8:17 mile pace for a finish of 25:40. SVC placed five harriers across the line for the invitational.

The race was to raise funds for recent flood victims from Hurricane Irene. Southern Vermont will run next at the Mountaineer Invitational, which will be held on the Southern Vermont Campus.
