Maria Stuber Recently Named Head Men's and Women's Cross Country Coach
BENNINGTON, Vt. - Southern Vermont College recently hired Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Coach, Maria Stuber.
"I am excited to share my love for the sport with student-athletes at Southern Vermont College,” said Stuber. “Recruiting will be the major focus this year and next. My immediate goal is to build the SVC Cross Country programs into a real Conference threat."
Coach Stuber is originally from Wisconsin where she was a part of four DI High School State Championship Running teams. Stuber also competed in cross country skiing where she was the individual state champion twice in her high school tenure.
Stuber attended Northern Michigan University where she participated in both Cross Country and Cross Country skiing. The Cross Country team made it to the NCAA DII Championships four years in a row and finished in 4th place in 2004. Stuber’s best individual performance landed her in the top 40’s.
She was the captain of her ski team at Northern Michigan University and was a part of the team that swept the podium (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) in both skate and classic events at the NCAA Skiing Championships. They remain the only team in NCAA history to accomplish this feat.
Stuber began her coaching career in 2008 at Northern Michigan University as a volunteer coach.
"Already, the SVC Community has been outstanding to work with,” said Stuber. “The mountainous terrain and the endless amounts of trail running make Bennington the perfect place to be a cross country runner."
"Outside of running fast, I hope to get students-athletes to graduation with life skills like sportsmanship, accountability, and a positive attitude,” added Stuber. “I want my teams to feel like they have contributed to the success of the college."
