Alvarez Named to Third Team All-New England

BENNINGTON, Vt.- Southern Vermont College Outside Hitter, Jessica Alvarez (Eagle Rock, CA) was named to the third team All-New England team, Thursday afternoon. The All-New England Team was announced by the New England Women’s Volleyball Association (NEWVA). Alvarez a junior was also named New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Year.

The California native broke the SVC All-Time mark for kills in a season and in a career in just her first season at Southern Vermont. Alvarez finished the 2011 season with 413 kills, a .323 hitting percentage, and 263 digs. The digs mark put Alvarez fifth on SVC’s All-Time dig list.

The All-New England team honor was the first for the Volleyball program which finished with the best season in SVC history. Women’s Volleyball went 31-3 a regular season NECC championship, a NECC tournament championship, and a NCAA regional appearance. The Mountaineers finished 14^th in the final regional poll.
