BENNINGTON, Vt.- As the year of 2011 came to an end, the Bennington Banner recognized the top 10 sports moments around the area. The Southern Vermont College Women's Volleyball team made the list at number nine for its historic 2011 season.
The Mountaineers set an SVC school record with 31 wins, and won a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) regular season and tournament championship. The Volleyball squad went the entire conference season without dropping a single set, the first time in NECC history. The Mountaineers also won 51 consecutive sets at one point which stands as the third longest streak in NCAA history.
The Women's Volleyball team was also the first women's program at SVC to make the NCAA tournament. The team was only the second team in school history to make the NCAA's. In the national tournament SVC lost to eventual regional champion Cortland.
