Serve Receive Errors Plague Mountaineers As The Clippers Sweep Doubleheader

BENNINGTON, Vt. - The Southern Vermont College women's volleyball team hosted a doubleheader against the University of Maine Machias Sunday but came up short as the Clippers swept the series 3-0 (14-25, 21-25, 23-25) and 3-0 (18-25, 16-25, 18-25). In the end receive errors cut Southern Vermont's chances short for victory as the Mountaineers fall to a 1-5 overall record while UMM improves to a 3-8 overall.

SVC got off to a slow start in the first set only hitting .056 and making a few costly errors. In the second and third sets the young squad gathered its composure and battled to a 21-25 and 23-25 loss. The attacking percentage went up to .250 for the last sets as well.

Junior setter Sarah Golub played well for the Mountaineers posting one kill, three assists, seven digs, and was solid from the line with no errors on the day (Golub leads the team with 14 service aces).

Kayleigh Moretto led the attack for SVC with nine kills and only three errors out of 26 attempts. Moretto also contributed seven digs and a block assist.

Laura Sullivan, Brittany Barclay, and Tasha Smith had 10, five, and six digs in the effort.

The Clippers were led by Jamyriah McPherson who had seven kills and three aces. Alex Kolinich played well on the defense for UMM with 12 digs. Elisa Boyd and Erika Smith knocked four and five service aces to help notch the victory for the Clippers.

In the second match Moretto (leads the team with 44 kills) and Smith led the Mountaineers with seven and six kills respectively. Golub had seven assists and three service aces. When Golub is at the service line the Mountaineers have been extremely successful.

Sabree Rodriguez had eight kills and two aces while McPherson led the defense with 10 digs.

Overall SVC had 34 serve receive errors giving the Clippers the advantage in the hard fought doubleheader.

The Mountaineers are gearing up to hit the road against Framingham St. (currently 5-8 overall facing Elms and Emmanuel this week) next Saturday, September 26 for some non-conference action at 11:00 a.m.
