Women's Soccer Earns NSCAA Gold Ethics Award
BENNINGTON, Vt.- The 2011 season was a step in the right direction for the Southern Vermont College Women’s soccer program. The program won its most games since 1999 and made its first post-season appearance since 99 as well. Monday afternoon the program was awarded again for its on-field achievement. The Mountaineers were awarded the NSCAA's Gold Team Ethics Award.
“This is a tremendous achievement for our team. I am a firm believer that success must come with honor and the team proved this to be true. They competed fiercely and respected the game at the same time. This is another step forward for our program and I am very proud of the team,” Head Coach Michael Zauzig.
The NSCAA Gold Team Ethics Award is given to teams that completed the entire 2011 season without receiving either a yellow or red card. Eighty-two teams received either the Gold, Silver or Bronze version of the Team Ethics Award, which recognizes teams that exhibit fair play, sporting behavior and adherence to the Laws of the Game, as reflected by the number of yellow caution cards or red ejection cards they are shown by referees throughout the season.
Southern Vermont was one of thirteen teams that received the Gold award. The Mountaineers played in 14 games in 2011, including a first round New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) playoff game against Mitchell College.
