LONGMEADOW, Mass.- After securing its first New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) win a week ago, the Southern Vermont College Women's Soccer team didn't wait long to win the second. In its first game since the 1-0 homecoming win over Daniel Webster College last Saturday, the Mountaineers beat Bay Path College 2-1 Saturday afternoon, at Ryan Field.
Southern Vermont junior Shawnee Webster scored two first half goals to lead the Mountaineers in the victory. Webster put SVC on the board at the 12:38 mark, when she fired a shot from 25 yards that beat Wildcats keeper Marina Rhodes. Five minutes later Webster stepped up and finished a penalty kick to give SVC a 2-0 advantage.
Keelin Dougherty scored Bay Path's only goal at the 31 minute mark when she collected a rebound off a free kick. It was the fifth goal for Dougherty in the 2011 campaign.
After the Dougherty goal both the Mountaineers and Wildcats used strong defense to keep the score 2-1. In the second half Mountaineers keeper Catrina Cecchini made four saves while Rhodes made one.
The Mountaineers are now 2-2 in the NECC and 3-6 overall. SVC will look to make it three straight when they host NECC foe Elms Wednesday at 4:00PM.
