Greene-Allen scored a hat trick, as the visiting Newbury women's
soccer team defeated Southern Vermont College, 3-0, at Homecoming
on Saturday at Everett Field on Saturday.
The Nighthawks (2-1-1 overall, 1-0 NECC) opened the scoring just
before halftime as Ashleigh Guy connected with Ashley Greene-Allen
to beat SVC goalkeeper Amber Mulhern for the 1-0 lead at the
break.
Greene-Allen added an unassisted goal to the Newbury lead just five
minutes into the second half. "This was a solid team win in the
first conference game of the season," said Newbury head coach Bobby
Desilets. "In the past, we would have found ways to allow SVC back
into the game, so I am pleased to see us work hard for 90 minutes
and build for success with
smart, tough play."
Greene-Allen completed her hat trick with her third goal in the
79th minute on an assist from Jamie Tannura. Newbury goalkeeper
Jennifer Anderson finished with three saves in the win, while
Mulhern stopped nine total shots.
"We're still making some of the same mistakes, and the team
realizes what is going wrong, but we must move forward and make
that next step," said SVC head coach Shawn Holcombe. "We have
definitely made major progress from last season, but that isn't
enough. The fire is
missing and someone needs to step up and provide the spark, the
ignition, to get us to the next level."
SVC is back in action on Tuesday, when Elms travels to Bennington
for a conference game at 4 p.m.
