Falcons Soar Over Mountaineers

BENNINGTON, Vt. - The Southern Vermont women's soccer team had a season high 16 shots and were down 1-0 at the half but could not connect with the back of the net losing 5-0 to Fisher College Wednesday.

Freshman Daryl Aubin (Forestdale, R.I./North Smithfield HS) and Senior Leslie Surdam (Hoosick, N.Y./Hoosick Falls HS) led the way in the Mountaineers (0-12) offensive attack. They each had six shots and were keeping Falcon (2-10) goalkeeper Melissa Holloman busy for most of the game. Audin and Surdam had several dead sprints downfield past the Fisher defenders and it seemed as though Southern Vermont may get up on the scoreboard early. Sophomore Cassandra Brooks (Barre, Vt./Spaulding HS) had four shots for the SVC squad and contributed defensively in the loss.

In the 32nd minute Falcon Lizzie Shea got one past Mountaineer freshman goalkeeper Jillian Neudecker (Johnsonville, N.Y./Tamarac HS) to make it 1-0 in Fishers favor.Neudecker finished the game with nine saves on 17 shots faced in the loss. She still leads the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) with 191 saves and 17.36 saves per game.

In the second period the Southern Vermont defense crumbled as Falcon forward Kaitlyn Deveraux scored four goals to seal the victory for Fisher 5-0.

The Mountaineers take on Wheelock on the road Wednesday, September 24 in a NECC showdown. Kickoff is at 4:00 p.m.
