Mike Quinn, the winningest coach in program history, returns in 2016-17 for his eighth year as head coach of the Southern Vermont College women’s basketball team.
Last season, Quinn and his squad made their second-ever playoff appearance with a berth in the NECC tournament. In 2014-15, he led the Mountaineers to a 17-11 record, the program’s best mark ever, and the team’s first ever postseason appearance. He then commanded the Mountaineers to a pair of playoff wins as they made their way to the New England Collegiate Conference Championship.
In the ’10-11 season, Quinn’s team had more victories (7) than any previous SVC women’s basketball team since the 1999–00 season. The 2011-12 team then duplicated the same number of victories. Over his first three years, the women’s team had numerous New England Collegiate Conference Players of the Week as well as players named to both All-NECC and NECC All-Academic teams. Quinn also coached the 2012-13 NECC Women's Basketball Rookie of the Year, Amber Flagg, who has since collected the program’s only two all-conference first team honors.
Quinn was the head softball coach for the ‘08–09 season (this team broke a 46-game losing streak) and he also served as the assistant softball coach from 2009–11.
Before coming to SVC, he voluntarily coached youth sports (ages of 6-18) for over 22 years. He also served in numerous board of director’s positions and helped form a girl’s softball program (serving as President of the board for three years).
Coach Quinn graduated from the College of Saint Rose with a degree in Sociology and Social Work (double major). He has a professional background in social services with over 30 years of experience in the field of child abuse and maltreatment in New York State.
