BENNINGTON, Vt.- Joa Claircius led the Southern Vermont College Women's Basketball team to its first victory of the 2011-12 season Tuesday evening. Claircius scored 26 points and pulled down 16 rebounds as the Mountaineers traveled to Green Mountain College and won 77-62.
After identical 79-65 losses to open its season SVC went to the road for the third time in three games this season. In each of the first two games SVC struggled in one of the halves. Opening night it was the first half, last Thursday it was the second half that doomed SVC. Tonight, Southern Vermont played a complete game and earned the victory over the Green Mountain Eagles.
Sophomore Dayna Carpenter (Northampton, MA) continued her strong play with 15 points for SVC. Also, sophomore guard Ashliy Veliz (Glendale, CA) chipped in with 11 points and seven rebounds. For the Eagles, Jacque Caster led the team with 22 points and Chelsea Paul had 17.
Southern Vermont will take a week long break for the Thanksgiving holiday before hosting its home opener next Tuesday at 6:00PM against New England College.
