Women's Basketball Drops Season Opener To Sage

ALBANY, N.Y. - The Southern Vermont College women's basketball team lost 79-50 in non-conference action against the Sage College Gators Tuesday night at the Kahl Campus Center. SVC's sophomore guard Joa Claircius paced the Mountaineers with her 18 points, while handing out six assists.

Sage would own a 62-27 lead at the break as freshman Kara Hackett and sophomore Kelsey Frament each led the Gators with 12 points.  

Junior Kiara Bates and junior forward Tiarra Hall each hauled down eight rebounds for the SVC team. Alyssa Davis and Bates each had eight points as Davis netted Southern Vermont's only two triples of the game.

By game's end, Hackett would finish with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while junior forward Jessica Byerwalters contributed 17 points for the Gators.

Senior forward Amber Muir netted 12 points and six rebounds off the bench for Sage, which was held to just 17 second half points.

Southern Vermont College will compete this same weekend at the University of Massachusetts-Boston Tip-Off Tournament facing Framingham State College in the 7:30 p.m. contest on Friday.
