Mountaineers Wear Pink

BENNINGTON, Vt.- For the next two weeks, the Southern Vermont College athletic teams will wear pink uniforms to support breast cancer awareness month. The Mountaineers, Men’s and Women’s soccer teams along with the Women’s Volleyball team will wear the pink uniforms for their home games.

The Men’s soccer team will host Becker College today, October 18th, when they will break the uniforms out, and will host Wheelock College on October 29th for senior day. The Women’s soccer team will wear the uniforms on the 29th as well, when the team recognizes its senior captain, Joellen Demers.

The 24-2 Women’s Volleyball team will wear the pink uniforms for the second straight year.  This year the team will sport the jerseys this Saturday October 22nd, when they host Mitchell College in a double header. The first match will be a conference match, while the second will be a non-conference match. A year ago the Women’s Volleyball program wore the pink jerseys in 3-0 victories over Bay Path and Becker.

“Sometimes, we lose the importance of what “think pink” symbolizes,” said Head Women’s Volleyball Coach Josh Stokes. “It is vital that we utilize this opportunity to promote the awareness of a disease that closely affects our Mothers, daughters, sisters, friends, and everyone around us. SVC Athletics should be proud that we are helping support the fight against breast cancer.”
