SVC Wins First Set In Two Years

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Southern Vermont men's volleyball team won its first set in two years but could not breakdown Conference (NECC) foe Lesley University losing 3-1 (13-30,30-28,35-37,14-30) Saturday. Middle blocker Joe Karnik led the squad with 15 kills and 1 block as the Mountaineers fell to 0-11 overall (0-5 NECC).

SVC posted a season high 33 kills with Karnik leading the team and Cameron Herrington close behind with 9 kills. Ryan Heron and Herrington each had 9 digs leading the team. Setter Richard Harrington had a career high 26 assists.

The set was the first win since the 2006-2007 season when they won against Vermont Technical Institute 15-11 in a 3-2 win.

The Lynx were led by hitters Malcolm Andrews and Zach Beers who had 15 kills and 10 kills respectively.

The Mountaineers showed moments of brilliance when they went on an 8-0 run in the third set to comeback nearly take a 2-1 lead losing in overtime 37-35.

Southern Vermont will take on Wentworth Technical Institute at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, March 1.
