Strong Second Half Leads Mountaineers Past Blazers

Chicopee, MA- After battling to a 0-0 first half draw, the Southern Vermont College Men's Soccer team used four second half goals to win its fourth New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) match of the season. The Mountaineers scored four goals within a five minute span to secure a 4-1 victory over host Elms College.

Elms College sophomore forward Ziggy Jonathan scored the first goal of the match at the 52:25 mark to give the Blazers a 1-0 advantage. The Mountaineers roared right back with a goal of its own exactly one minute later.  Twenty one second later Chris Hansen put Southern Vermont ahead with his second goal in as many games.

38 second after Hansen's goal Masssena struck again with his ninth goal in 2011. Captain Nick Haggerty capped SVC's surge with a goal of his own in the 58th minute.

Mountaineer keeper Connor Anniello stopped 11 shots for the victors as Blazer keeper Ryan Sullivan made 11 saves in the defeat.

Southern Vermont is now 8-4 and a league leading 4-0 in the NECC, while Elms is 3-8 overall and 1-3 in conference action. The Mountaineers are back in action Tuesday when they play host to non-conference opponent MCLA. Elms will host Mount Ida College at 4:30PM Thursday.
